You Will Want to Make This Quick Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus for Every Meal

Spring IS asparagus season. Can we get it all year? Yes. Is it the same? No! Make the most of asparagus season with this super quick Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus. It's perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

What You Need to Make Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus

This is truly an easy recipe. It's minimal ingredients - fresh asparagus, slices of prosciutto and a little freshly ground black pepper. The prosciutto turns crispy due to the fat plus it provides a salty offset to the umami flavor of asparagus without adding salt.

How to Make Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus

  1. Cut each piece of prosciutto lengthwise into three strips.

  2. Wrap one piece around each group of 3 skinny spears or each thick spear.

  3. Drizzle well with extra virgin olive oil and sprinkle liberally with black pepper.

  4. Broil for 5-8 minutes about 10” from the broiler element until the prosciuto is crispy and brown on the edges and the asparagus is just beginning to soften.

Can Bacon Be Used Instead of Proscuitto?

You can use bacon, but it will take a lot longer. Bacon is a raw product. To fully enclose the stalk of asparagus, it is wrapped over itself. At the point it's overlapped, the bacon may not be completely cooked through. Therefore you have to cook the asparagus several minutes longer. Because I don't like flabby asparagus, I don't like to cook it more than 5-10 minutes so I found using Prosciutto, a fully cooked product, solves this problem.
