How to Cook & Cut Spaghetti Squash Two Ways
So you’re not eating carbs. If you want the same vibe as spaghetti, Spaghetti Squash is one great alternative.
How to Choose the Perfect Spaghetti Squash
When choosing a squash, find those that don’t have any blemishes as these can quickly turn into soft spots that will mold.
Next, pick them up and choose those that feel light for their size. Spaghetti squash that are overripe are heavier and can be very squishy (like my super-cheffy terminology?) when cooked which means they won’t separate properly.
Two Ways to Cook Spaghetti Squash and When to Use
Cook It in Rings
There are a lot of ways to cook spaghetti squash, but many of them result in overcooked squash that’s mushy and watery.
The best way I’ve found to cook it when you’re wanting to use it like traditional long pasta is to bake it in rings and then pull the strands apart. The prepping technique for this method is featured in the first video below.
Use this method for:
Serving like traditional long pastas
An sub for pasta in casseroles
Serve as a side with any meal. Toss with Magic Salt, olive oil or butter. You can also add herbs or cheese.
Make Spaghetti Squash Pan Pizza (as mentioned in video)
NOTE: Ignore the random “Title Text” in the video…I was a newbie to video when I made this.
Cook It in Halves
When you want to serve directly in a spaghetti squash, you will cut it, scoop out the seeds and roast cut side down.
You can pull the strands apart before filling if you want to, or just fill the cavity with the filling and let everyone pull the squash as they eat the filling.
Fill your spaghetti squash with anything from taco meat to buffalo chicken to simple meat sauce then serve.
